Calvin Johnson

Calvin Johnson (81) and his Lions will more than likely be humiliated on Thanksgiving once again. Hopefully he doesn't become a turkey for his owners (NFL.com).

NEW ENGLAND PARTIOTS (8-2) @ DETROIT LIONS (2-8) – Thursday 11:30am

Favorite: NE (-6.5)

Definitely Start: Tom Brady, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew

Maybe Start: Deion Branch, Danny Woodhead, Shaun Hill

Don’t Start: Nate Burleson, Jahvid Best, Brandon Tate

Analysis: The first of three bad Thanksgiving matchups. But for fantasy players, bad matchups don’t mean a lack of attention. I can’t think of a single Patriot starter I don’t see doing decently in this game. While their defense can surrender yardage, injuries at QB and RB will prevent Detroit from capitalizing. Best has suffered most and is still playing with turf toe. Maybe Detroit will air it out for Johnson half the game but they may be out of it by the end of the 3rd quarter.

Prediction: Patriots 33, Lions 21.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (7-3) @ DALLAS COWBOYS (3-7) – Thursday 3:15pm

Favorite: NO (-3.5)

Definitely Start: Drew Brees, Marques Colston, Lance Moore, Dez Bryant

Maybe Start: Robert Meachem, Chris Ivory, Miles Austin, Jason Witten, Felix Jones

Don’t Start: Devery Henderson, Reggie Bush, Roy Williams, Marion Barber, Jon Kitna

Analysis: Despite the fact Dallas has this thing called a “winning streak” where a team acquires consecutive victories (sorry to spell it out so bluntly – this is a new concept for Cowboys fans), I think their mini period of relevance will terminate against a true NFC contender. Brees will air the ball just fine. Bush and Ivory will be the backfield tandem this week but I’m not crazy about either. The Saints wideouts are usually hit or miss, as is Austin for the ‘Boys. If you have better matchups, play them instead of hoping for red zone looks.

Prediction: Saints 40, Cowboys 20.

CINCINNATI BENGALS (2-8) @ NEW YORK JETS (8-2) – Thursday 7:20pm

Favorite: NYJ (-9)

Definitely Start: Mark Sanchez, LaDainian Tomlinson, Shonn Greene, Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes

Maybe Start: Cedric Benson, Chad Ochocinco, Dustin Keller

Don’t Start: Carson Palmer, Terrell Owens, Jermaine Gresham

Analysis: Holmes has been nothing but clutch in the receiver department. The way Sanchez is going to Edwards on third downs and Holmes in the 4th quarter, the Jets passing attack has been dazzling. Any football expert will tell you the pass opens up the run which creates opportunities for LT and Greene. Keller is long due for a score but I don’t know when it will come. Oh, and yes the Bengals are playing in this game too. Revis will cover either TO, Ocho, or both; thus, resist the urge to play one over the other. Benson faces one of the league’s best rush defenses which could spell fantasy hell for his owners. At least Cincinnati has the Reds to give thanks for today.

Prediction: Jets 35, Bengals 10.
