LAST WEEK’S PREDICTIONS: 8-5

2010 SEASON PREDICTIONS: 41-30

.

NEW YORK JETS (5-2) @ DETROIT LIONS (2-5) – 12:00pm, CBS

Favorite: NYJ (-4)

Definitely Start: Mark Sanchez, LaDainlian Tomlinson, Dustin Keller, Calvin Johnson

Maybe Start: Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, Jahvid Best, Brandon Pettigrew

Don’t Start: Shonn Green, Matthew Stafford, Kevin Smith

Analysis: Stafford was a nice pickup against a bad Washington pass defense last week, but now he faces real danger. Calvin is the only Lions threat, so play him. Jets may score early and run clock, so LT could see plenty of touches.

Prediction: Jets 27, Lions 14.

.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (5-2) @ ATLANTA FALCONS (5-2) – 12:00pm, FOX

Favorite: ATL (-8.5)

Definitely Start: Josh Freeman, LeGarrett Blount, Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Michael Turner

Maybe Start: Mike Williams, Tony Gonzalez

Don’t Start: Kellen Winslow, Cadillac Williams

Analysis: The Tampa defense still can’t stop the run. Turner could break of a few long runs for scores. Ryan will lead the way through the air. Bucs look like a run first team now with Blount running like a beast. If Tampa can’t hang with the Dirty Birds, Freeman may be forced to throw. Early lead is critical for either team.

Prediction: Falcons 20, Tampa Bay 16.

.

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (3-5) @ HOUSTON TEXANS (4-3) – 12:00pm, CBS

Favorite: SD (-3)

Definitely Start: Philip Rivers, Ryan Mathews, Legadu Naanee, Patrick Crayton, Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson, Jacoby Jones

Maybe Start: Arian Foster, Mike Tolbert

Don’t Start: Malcom Floyd (INJ), Antonio Gates (INJ), Kevin Walter, Owen Daniels

Analysis: Neither team has a phenomenal pass defense so a shootout may be eminent. Rivers is on pace to break Dan Marino’s passing record for yardage. With Floyd coming off injury and Gates iffy, play the Chargers running backs. Houston will definitely try and go aerial. Johnson and Jones could benefit nicely.

Prediction: Chargers 33, Texans 30.

.

MIAMI DOLPHINS (4-3) @ BALTIMORE RAVENS (5-2) – 12:00pm, CBS

Favorite: BAL (-5.5)

Definitely Start: Ronnie Brown, Brandon Marshall, Joe Flacco, Anquain Boldin, Todd Heap

Maybe Start: Ricky Williams, Ray Rice

Don’t Start: Chad Henne, Devone Bess

Analysis: These two defenses actually are pretty similar as far as limiting teams in points this year. I predict two rushing attacks and it will be a battle of whose defense tires and cracks first. Baltimore may resist strictly running just a bit longer. If Flacco doesn’t face pressure, he’s solid.

Prediction: Ravens 17, Dolphins 14.

.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (5-3) @ CAROLINA PANTHERS (1-6) – 12:00pm, FOX

Favorite: NO (-6.5)

Definitely Start: Drew Brees, Marques Coslton, Lance Moore, Jonathan Stuart

Maybe Start: Chris Ivory, Devry Henderson, Robert Meachem, Steve Smith

Don’t Start: Jeremy Shockey, Matt Moore, DeAngelo Williams (INJ)

Analysis: The Saints have been stumbling but beat one of the AFC’s best in Pittsburgh last Sunday. New Orleans tripped against the Cardinals and Browns – no way do they let the Panthers steal a win. Carolina will run, run, run so their backs will get plenty of work.

Prediction: Saints 26, Panthers 10.

.

ARIZONA CARDINALS (3-4) @ MINNESOTA VIKINGS (2-5) – 12:00pm, FOX

Favorite: MIN (-8)

Definitely Start: Larry Fitzgerald, Adrian Peterson, Visanthe Shiancoe, Percy Harvin

Maybe Start: Beanie Wells, Steve Breaston, Bernard Berrian

Don’t Start: Derek Anderson, Brett Favre

Analysis: The Vikings will definitely feel the loss of Randy Moss. Still no Sidney Rice spells trouble for Favre owners. Minnesota should see lots of Peterson. The Cards counter with an iffy run game so more then likely they’ll go aerial. Expect boo-birds galore for the sinking Vikings.

Prediction: Vikings 19, Cardinals 16.

.

CHICAGO BEARS (4-3) @ BUFFALO BILLS (0-7) – 12:00pm, FOX

Favorite: CHI (-3)

Definitely Start: Matt Forte, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Fred Jackson

Maybe Start: Jay Cutler, Johnny Knox, Lee Evans

Don’t Start: Greg Olsen, Devin Hester, Steve Johnson

Analysis: The fans in Tortono will be treated to this “special” matchup between two of the NFL’s biggest “Ehhh…” squads. The Bills sure can pass the ball, but their defense is as porous as a sponge. The Bears can’t run the ball to save their lives. Forte should get lots of carries but rumors are the Bears are disappointed in his short distance running. Keep an eye open.

Prediction: Bears 30, Bills 20.

.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (6-1) @ CLEVELAND BROWNS (2-5) – 3:05pm, CBS

Favorite: NE (-4.5)

Definitely Start: BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Aaron Hernandez, Peyton Hillis

Maybe Start: Tom Brady, Deion Branch (INJ), Wes Welker, Benjamin Watson

Don’t Start: Colt McCoy, Danny Woodhead

Analysis: Yes, you read that right. Maybe start Brady. The Patriots could get up very early so they could be playing run the clock early in the second half. The Law firm of BGE is good for a score a week, so roll with the dreads. Forget any Browns, there’s nothing good in Cleveland.

Prediction: Patriots 42, Browns 13.

.

NEW YORK GIANTS (5-2) @ SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (4-3) – 3:05pm, FOX

Favorite: NYG (-6.5)

Definitely Start: Eli Manning, Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks, Ahmad Bradshaw, Marshawn Lynch

Maybe Start: Brandon Jacobs, Mario Manningham

Don’t Start: Matt Hasselbeck (INJ), Mike Williams

Analysis: Hasselbeck isn’t 100% after the concussion he suffered last week. Without him, it will be the Marshawn Lynch show featuring the rest of the Seattle offense. The Giants have good matchups at all skill positions. The Seahawks can blitz wildly and being a home game, they might have a chance to disrupt the Giants. Unfortunately, not enough for Charlie Whitehurst.

Prediction: Giants 26, Seahawks 14.

.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (5-2) @ PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (4-3) – 3:15pm, CBS

Favorite: PHI (-3)

Definitely Start: Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy, Jeremy Maclin

Maybe Start: Donald Brown, DeSean Jackson

Don’t Start: Joseph Addai (INJ), Mike Hart (INJ), Jacob Tamme

Analysis: The Colts go through running backs like fashions go out of style. Indy will pass until their MVP’s arm falls off. Vick makes things interesting on the Philly sideline. Vick makes things easier for McCoy and Maclin. DJax is coming off a two week concussion in essence. He may be rusty. Turnovers determine this game’s winner.

Prediction: Colts 27, Eagles 20.

.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (5-2) @ OAKLAND RAIDERS (4-4) – 3:15pm, CBS

Favorite: OAK (-2.5)

Definitely Start: Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe, Darren McFadden

Maybe Start: Thomas Jones, Darrius Heyward-Bay

Don’t Start: Matt Cassel, Tony Moeaki, Jason Campbell, Michael Bush, Zach Miller (INJ)

Analysis: This will be another rushing heavy game. The chiefs have dominated on the ground in 2010 so why not play the hot hand? Charles and Jones might be the best 1-2 punch in RB combinations. I don’t see much offense for either team passing. Miller’s injury hurts Campbell’s stock.

Prediction: Chiefs 23, Raiders 10.

.

DALLAS COWBOYS (1-6) @ GREEN BAY PACKERS (5-3) – 7:20pm, NBC

Favorite: GB (-8)

Definitely Start: Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings

Maybe Start: Jon Kitna, Marion Barber, Felix Jones, Brandon Jackson, James Jones, Jordy Nelson

Don’t Start: Roy Williams, Donald Driver (INJ)

Analysis: I’m sure on paper this game looked great to nationally televise as the league’s game of the week in July. How ironic life can be sometimes. The Packers refuse to run the ball like their divisional brethren from Chicago. No Driver means a big day for Jennings. The Cowboys are hit or miss. We’ll see if Kitna keeps the interceptions to under 4 this week.

Prediction: Packers 28, Cowboys 23.

.

PITTSBURGH STEELERS (5-2) @ CINCINNATI BENGALS (2-5) – 7:30pm Monday, ESPN

Favorite: PIT (-5)

Definitely Start: Ben Roethlisberger, Rashard Mendenhall, Hines Ward, Terrell Owens

Maybe Start: Mike Wallace, Chad Ochocinco, Cedric Benson

Don’t Start: Heath Miller, Carson Palmer

Analysis: Miller is the anti-Christ to his owners right now. You have to have the patience of a saint in order to keep calling his number. Let’s see if Big Ben can reward those owners. The Bengals are spotty when it comes to offense. Really, I’m against Benson’s matchup but Cincy may not have many other options.

Prediction: Steelers 27, Bengals 13.
