Reid: Vick is Eagles starting QB

Posted: September 21, 2010 in News

Andy Reid came out around dinner time on Tuesday and announced via a telephone press conference that the team will head in the direction of Michael Vick running the first string offense this Sunday at Jacksonville and from here on out.

According to ESPN’s Sal Palantonio, Vick and former starter Kevin Kolb both received seperate phone calls from Reid. As one could imagine, it was two different reactions to the news. Vick’s was very content and grateful for the opportunity. Kolb was somewhat disgruntled and edgy.

The obvious implication here is that Andy Reid did fantasy owners who possess Vick a solid favor here by naming him the team’s starter. If Vick can replicate what he did against Green Bay or Detroit (37-58, 459 yards, 3 TD / 18 rushes, 140 yards), expect Vick to be in the top ten of QBs with favorable matchups for the rest of the fantasy season.

According to, a news story quoted Reid as saying:

“Michael Vick will be the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles … I think his play has even exceeded expectations over the last two weeks. This has nothing to do with Kevin Kolb’s injury … he’s done a phenomenal job for us here. The future of Kevin Kolb is not slighted by this one bit. He has an opportunity to be what I would consider a franchise quarterback and very deserving of so. This is more about Michael Vick and his accelerated play. He’s sitting there as possibly the hottest quarterback in the NFL at this time … Very few quarterbacks can go out and play the way he played the last couple weeks and do the things that he did.”
